Veterans Outreach

The Veterans Outreach program partners with different arms of the Veterans Administration to support veterans with specific and essential items.

Veterans support

Watch KOLO8’s Morning Break interview with Assistance League about our Veterans Programs at the KOLO8 website.

Throughout the year, this program supports the VA Homeless Veterans Project.  It provides bus passes and home supplies to both homebound veterans and women veterans. They also provide household items for apartments provided by the Homeless Vets committee.

The program annually hosts a Veteran’s Coat Drive in support of “Stand Down for Veterans” – collaborative events, coordinated between local VA Medical Centers, other government agencies and community-based homeless service providers. Additionally, we provide rolling duffel bags for the veterans who attend this event.

Once a year the VA hosts a Veterans Baby Shower and we’re one of the biggest participants. We pack bags full of supplies for Veterans to help take care of their youngest children. It’s so joyous.

We’ve expanded our support for Veterans living in the VA’s Community Living Centers. We now host a monthly Coffee and Art session where Veterans get fresh coffee, wonderful company, and an opportunity to express themselves through art projects. Every month, Veterans who live at the Community Living Centers picks one Veteran of the Month. We celebrate that Veteran with special gifts and a ceremony. We host a Christmas party for all of the Veterans. We also provide the Centers with snacks and refreshments.

Our members love to support our Veterans!

Veterans Baby Shower

We have so many ways to support local Veterans. Every year we participate in the Veterans Baby Shower (above) and Veterans Stand Down (below).
