Assistance League of Northern Virginia is privileged to have been selected to receive a generous grant from The Cecil & Irene Hylton Foundation in support of its Weekend Food for Kids program. The generous grant award will allow the nonprofit to continue to provide weekend food for less-advantaged students participating in the program at a partner school in Prince William County, for an entire school year.
With considerable support from the Foundation since 2018, the local chapter of Assistance League is making great strides in its commitment to transforming lives and strengthening our communities. Through its program that addresses childhood hunger, the member-based organization provides bags of nonperishable food items for low-income students to take home on weekends when school meals are not available. Having this reliable source of nutritious food improves the students’ well-being and increases their chances for success in school.
The Cecil & Irene Hylton Foundation has a rich history in Prince William and has supported nonprofits that serve the Woodbridge and surrounding communities since 1989, giving primarily for hospitals, education, human services, and to a performing arts center and a boys and girls club.
