Volunteers at Assistance League of Victor Valley recently hosted school librarians, principals, and teachers in celebration of the National Make A Difference Day, donating over 2,000 books to local schools.
The book drive was a collective effort between Assistance League volunteers and local Victor valley communities who gave generously, organizers said.
Assistance League said it appreciates the schools that were selected for participating in the program and for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend this year’s national “Make A Difference Day” book drive to receive book donations made to their schools.
“We understand how important it is for all children to have access to books,” drive organizers said in a written statement. “Our hope is that it will help to promote a love of reading and discovering. Most of all, it is feedback such as those we have received, that says we are on the right track.”
Angela Espino, library media coordinator at Adelanto Elmentary School was one of those offering positive feedback for the volunteer drive. We greatly appreciate all the work the Assistance League of Victor Valley does for the community,” Espino said.
“It was an enjoyable event,” Terry Dornhoefer, librarian at Mojave Vista said. “All of the books are on the shelves and most were Accelerated Reading titles. We appreciate that (the Assistance League_ took they time to organize the function and invite us.”
