Assisteens® is the Auxiliary of Assistance League Santa Clarita. Made up of forty-five, 7th through 12th grade students, they meet monthly. At each meeting they undertake a project for the benefit of the community and its residents.
The Assisteens have supported Assistance League Santa Clarita members with the Operation School Bell® program and have worked countless hours at the Assistance League Resale Store located in downtown Newhall to earn the money to finance their philanthropic projects.
Beginning in September 2015 and through the end of this school year they will have participated in the city-sponsored River Rally Cleanup, prepared over 100 sack lunches for the Emergency Winter Shelter, provided 300 bags of homemade cookies for the SCV Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals program and assembled holiday decorations for the Santa Clarita Valley Convalescent Hospital. In addition, 50 backpacks containing toiletries, linens, new underwear, etc. have been prepared and delivered to the staff of the Department of Children and Family Services to be given to children and teenagers who are being taken into foster care.
Assisteens are “thinking green” for their largest undertaking of the year. It is the planning and execution of an annual party for the residents of LARC Ranch. The traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner will not be served as they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 13. Instead, the residents will be ordering a hamburger and fries from the Habit truck that comes to the ranch each year for this celebration. After lunch they will enjoy an afternoon of music, dance and socializing. We have been told that the residents eagerly await the Assisteens sponsored party each year. And, they are not the only ones who look forward to this event. The Assisteens all agree that the LARC Ranch party is their favorite activity of the year. All of the members of Assistance League Santa Clarita depend on and are incredibly proud of our Assisteens and their many accomplishments.
