Cause for Paws launched in December 2014 to help provide pet owners with items for newly-adopted dogs and cats. Initially, a partnership was formed with the League City Animal Care shelter and also offered volunteer opportunities for Assisteens^® 16 years or older.

During the pandemic, a rise in food and supplies Inventory requirements was addressed by regular visits to the shelter and donating the requested items.

Last spring, the auxiliary voted to extend this service to Bay Area Pet Adoptions/SPCA in San Leon.

Every month after the membership meeting concludes, a group of Assisteens package gift bags for dogs, including food, treats, a bowl, a collar and leash, a brush, and a toy. Cat owners receive food, treats, a bowl, a collar, a lint brush, and a toy. Both contain a small congratulatory note for those securing a companion animal to travel to their fur-ever home.
