After losing the resale shop in Seabrook, Assistance League® was determined to establish a new resale shop. It involved extensive thrift shop visits, research, and location scouting. They gathered surveys and sought expert advice from Executive Services Corp, Inc.’s thrift shop consultants.
Members voted on a new business plan, and a building search committee explored options. Eventually, they found a suitable location at 100 E. Nasa Parkway, the first site visited after Hurricane Ike. After months of exploration, research, and deliberation, the lease was sealed in December 2009.
Half of the insurance claim funds from Hurricane Ike fueled the construction build-out. Members and their families also contributed by painting walls, assembling fixtures, and bringing Suite 80 to life. The landlord even provided an extra suite for collecting donations.
On May 19, 2010, the doors opened, transforming the once bare concrete floor into a space filled with treasures and stories. The shop became a philanthropic powerhouse, allowing the chapter to fund programs that make a difference in people’s lives.
What started as a leap of faith became a strategic fundraiser, enabling the organization to continue changing lives and offering hope.
