Assistance League of the Bay Area has had a stellar year. An upscale Resale Shop, teeming with donated clothing, accessories, and home goods, has led to a record year in sales. This year’s Ball of the Wild 2017 gala was wildly successful due to the generosity of our community, sponsors, and members. Our chapter has been awarded a record number of grants. As a result of these financial achievements, we are giving back through our Community Outreach philanthropic program with one-time gifts.
Recently, our chapter surprised Molly Kistler, a science teacher at Clear Path Alternative High School, by sponsoring a $2060.00 Clear Creek Education Foundation Teacher Innovative Grant for her proposal, Growing Confidence. These funds will be used to build a garden at the school. The grant will impact one hundred seventy-five students.
A second Clear Creek Education Foundation Teacher Innovative Grant was awarded to Tiffany Deschler, 7th grade Science and Environmental Education Teacher at Westbrook Intermediate School, in the amount of $5,000 sponsored by Assistance League of the Bay Area. This grant funds her program Power of a Seed which integrates gardening, special needs students from Weber Elementary, Clear Brook High School, and the community.
A third grant was sponsored by Assistance League of the Bay Area to Nicole Mengo, a 7th grade Mathematics teacher, through the La Porte Education Foundation Teacher Innovative Grant program. The grant, valued at $751.58, will impact 250 students who attend her classes at Lomax Junior High by providing classroom math manipulatives.
A second La Porte Education Foundation Teacher Innovative Grant was sponsored by Assistance League of the Bay Area in the amount of $327.59. Book Worm and Social Butterflies was presented to Deanna Sherrill, a special education teacher at Leo Rizzuto Elementary School. One hundred eighty-four students will be reached.
