At our regular Assistance League meeting, Operation School Bell® chair, Joani Carrington, expressed appreciation to the member volunteers for helping clothe K-12 students at Target. She happily reported, “We are proud to say that in 2018-2019 we clothed 2,225 students!”
Students are selected by the school district homeless liaison coordinators, based on enrollment from all eight school districts in Whatcom County.Assistance League partners with Target at the Bellis Fair Mall to allow students to choose school appropriate clothing during special “shopping events” that last from 3 to 4 hours. This year, ten shopping events were held in the Fall, and one in the Spring, requiring 15 to 20 volunteers for each shopping event.
Joani gave “A big THANKS to all the member volunteers that helped at the Operation School Bell events or in the Thrift & Gift Shop.”
