Assistance League of Bellingham Decorates Christmas Tree for “Deck the Old City Hall”

Assistance League members with their newly decorated tree

When a visitor enters the Lobby of the Whatcom Museum (Old City Hall) during the Christmas Holidays, the first thing that catches their eye is Assistance League’s Christmas Tree with an antique lighted topper and adorned with all the magic of lights and silver tinsel.

The red ornaments highlighted against the tinsel invites the viewer to look closely where tucked in amidst the silver and red, are a collection of unique ornaments. Nestled against the base are a variety of teddy bears supporting wrapped boxes with our philanthropic program’s name on each.  What makes the tree so unique is that all the ornaments and the teddy bears were donated by our Thrift Shop!

Assistance League volunteer members, Wendy, Aurora and Helen met on a Monday morning.  The kind Museum staff offered a cart to transfer all of our decorations from car to the tree.  The staff had placed our lighted tree in the lobby which was a big help. They were “on call” throughout our decorating. When the last ornament was placed on the tree, we were all in the Christmas Spirit stepping back to admire our work. We felt very honored as this was the second year our tree was selected for the museum lobby.  The rest of the trees are on the second floor in the Rotunda Room.
