Holiday Cheer to Local Seniors with Annual Secret Santa Program

Volunteers from the Assistance League® of Bend are spreading holiday cheer across Deschutes County through their cherished Secret Santa program. This initiative, which focuses on fulfilling the holiday wishes of seniors, brings joy to residents in long-term care facilities in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, and Sisters.

Representatives from 18 care facilities speak with residents to collect their personalized gift requests, ranging from practical items like cozy socks or a warm blanket to more personal gifts, including books or even John Wayne memorabilia. These modest yet meaningful requests highlight the importance of making seniors feel special during the holiday season.

Tamara Spain, co-chair of the Secret Santa program, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are elated to be able to make so many people happy by providing gifts they wouldn’t normally receive during this time of year.”

On December 17, the “Secret Santa Squad,” dressed in festive holiday colors and Santa hats, set out to deliver over 400 beautifully wrapped gifts. Each gift was carefully chosen to bring comfort and joy to seniors, ensuring they received their surprises just in time for Christmas.

For over 20 years, this heartwarming tradition has brought a sense of community and love to seniors, reminding them they are not forgotten and are cared for during the holiday season.
