Eighth grade teacher Laura Hoover started a program to get children moving and 22 students are running a couple of times a week. Members of the running club got new shoes, which Hoover — who is a runner — said is important.
“When you’re running, it’s important that you have proper equipment so that you don’t get injured and as we were running, I noticed that many of them were running in footwear that just wasn’t effective for them,” Hoover said. “I decided that this was something we needed to do, we needed to fix.”
Fleet Feet Wilmington helped fit each child with proper shoes and socks. Assistance League of Greater Wilmington helped cover some of the cost.
