The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach offers an Even Start Program that prepares youngsters for kindergarten. The Assistance League of Laguna Beach has supported Even Start for many years through their Preschool Readiness Program. In the past the Assistance League has provided items including desks, chairs, and school supplies. Every year the students are given backpacks with school supplies, hygiene items and clothing. Recently the League provided new educational tools that encourage math, reading, spelling, pronunciation and problem solving. The young children consider the learning fun and enjoy the challenges presented within the educational program.
“The children are excited to spend time on the new programs,” their teacher was pleased to report. “They are focused and learning at a new level.”
The educational tools were made possible from the proceeds from the Assistance League Thrift Shop and donations made to the Assistance League.
The Assistance League of Laguna Beach is a volunteer service organization that operates numerous ongoing philanthropic programs that benefit the community. The Assistance League accepts donations of gently used apparel, household goods, jewelry, books and small furniture items that are then sold at the Assistance League Thrift Shop, located in the village at 526 Glenneyre, to raise funds to support League philanthropic programs, with a focus on programs to support children with special needs and families.
Philanthropies include the Early Intervention Program (EIP) for developmentally delayed infants, Preschool Readiness Program to support Even Start children at the Boys and Girls Club, Healthy Start program to promote healthy babies with the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Helping Military Families Program to support families at Camp Pendleton, Operation School Bell Program to provide support to school children, programs to support our local shelters and support for Laguna’s local cultural arts programs.
