For 86 years, the Nine O’Clock Players have been entertaining as well as educating children through the enchantment of live theatre. On Sunday, February 28th, the timeless classic Pinocchio—the story of a wooden puppet transforming into a boy of character — magically comes to life at the Assistance League Playhouse.
The opening day celebration features a plethora of exciting activities for audience members, including a festive carnival atmosphere and visit by a special celebrity guest.
Ticket holders can enjoy “marionette” face painting as well as attend a workshop on marionette techniques, featuring unique Pinocchio puppets on display from the collection of the world-renowned Bob Baker Marionette Theater.
Pinocchio reveals the story of lonely wood carver Gepetto, who creates the wooden puppet so that he can have a son. The Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life, telling him that if he’s good, he can become a “real” boy. Can Pinocchio overcome his impulses and wicked influences to achieve boyhood?
The production, directed by Todd Nielsen, features 10 original songs from composer/lyricist Carol Weiss that reveal Pinocchio learning how to become a real boy.
Actor Kim Harrison says, “The show is so much fun, and being part of the Nine O’Clock Players is just like a big family!”
Nine O’Clock Player Productions combine singing, dancing, colorful costumes, special effects, and audience interaction in presenting tales of classic children’s literature meant to inspire and entertain. The group provides quality family entertainment that encourages and exhilarates children of all ages in striving to achieve their very best.
