As part of Assistance League’s ACTION! Week, our local chapter worked with Elizabeth Hall Elementary in Minneapolis, to bring in a local author to come talk to their third graders. Lehman Riley, the author of the ‘Papa Lemon’s Little Wanderers’ book series, which are historical fiction children’s books about his grandparents, spoke about his family history. His goal is to help children understand the importance of family and how to create a story of their own. Mr. Riley spoke with these students on Feb 26 and the students were mesmerized! On March 5th, he returned to the school to listen to each of the interesting stories the students write about their families.
In addition to bringing in Mr. Riley to speak, we provided 2 sets of his series to their media center and each student received a signed copy of his 7th book which tackles the subject of bullying.
