On December 17, 2015, Walmart hosted a “Day of Giving” event in Oklahoma, awarding six nonprofits a Walmart Foundation Oklahoma State Giving grant. In Oklahoma City, one recipient was the Assistance League of Norman. The chapter received $27,500 for Operation School Bell® to provide easy care, peer-appropriate school clothing to children in need.
“Inadequate clothing is one factor in a tragic equation that causes children to avoid school and/or attend with behavioral and academic problems. Operation School Bell, our signature program, provides new school clothing to children in need so they can attend school with confidence,” said Susan Raley, president of the Assistance League of Norman. “More children in our community will be dressed appropriately to attend school with a positive attitude and ready to concentrate on learning as a result of this generous grant from the Walmart Foundation.”
