– The victim of a brutal crime is working to provide comfort for other women coping with the same ordeal.

She’s collecting clothing for women who are raped.

“We were all out, talking, and somebody put something in my drink,” said Tiffany Piggee Taylor.  “I was followed home and assaulted.”

The year 2003 was a dark time for Tiffany Piggee-Taylor, who says she was raped while living in Atlanta after a night out with friends. Her case was closed – she says it only made what she went through feel even worse.

“So I spent 10 years with no justice and so I decided to make my own,” she said

After she moved back to Michigan she opened Me Beauty Detroit, a body and bikini waxing business in Rochester.

She was looking for a way to give back and got involved with April’s Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month.

Remembering how grateful she was that she had something to wear home from hospital after receiving a rape kit. She wanted to make sure other victims had the same, that’s why she started the Granny Panty Drive.

“In the kit they give a panty,” Taylor said. “So I felt bikinis, panties, it made sense and it’s been huge.”

When victims go to the hospital for a rape kit they are given an assault survivor kit that they receive. It has a fresh outfit, a sweatshirt, sweat pants, sports bra toiletries, socks and underwear. This is what’s collected and this where the donations go.

Taylor is asking people to drop off and donate a new pack of Hanes or Fruit of the Loom women’s cotton briefs in all sizes. All panties go to the Assistance League of Southeast Michigan who supplies the new clothing and necessities to area hospitals.

Last year Tiffany collected 2,500 pair of underwear and $1,500.

“If anything gives people the courage to heal, just to start, you may not get prosecution but life is not over,” Taylor said. “You can still do something creative and make your mark.”
