Bookstar, Point Loma, received the National Operation School Bell® Award from Assistance League of Greater San Diego on May 22, 2017, at the chapter’s annual luncheon at the San Diego Yacht Club. The store and the chapter have partnered since October 2016. At that time the store held an eight-week holiday book drive for books for the chapter’s Operation School Bell® program. Over 2200 books were donated after the drive. Bookstar also held an Open House in December and the chapter received 5% ($1046) of sales made in a two-hour event. That amount bought more books. Through the store manager contacting City National Bank about Operation School Bell, the chapter received a check from the bank for $6000. The chapter selected grade level books that are favorites amongst the children they serve. A book is given to each child who receives clothes from the chapter.
