Some may ask, and with good reason, what does the Passport for Good Health™ committee accomplish? Is it still a vital part of our philanthropic mission? The committee members believe it is, the members of the community who benefit from our efforts think it is and the directors of health clinics where we distribute the passports definitely think it is, as the passports serve to “empower” the recipients.
The committee is charged with providing booklets to parents of children born in Montgomery County hospitals and to those who are served at several low cost clinics. The booklets are convenient tools for keeping track of immunizations and other critical health information. Since many of the families in our community are very mobile, the passports are particularly valuable.
The Senior Passport provides a handy place to record emergency contact information, current medications and conditions.
One of the most rewarding responsibilities of the committee is providing basic layette items to women who deliver babies at Conroe General Hospital and have no clothes for their newborns. These simple packages of items help the newborn as well as the mother; we include information about our chapter, so recipients may take advantage of the bargains in our store and other programs.
So far his year we distributed approximately 5,000 passports which puts us right on track to match last year’s distribution of 10,000.
We believe Passports for Good Health is a reflection of Assistance League of Montgomery County at its best. Through this program we support both the children and the elderly who need our compassion and care.
