The San Jacinto Teachers’ Association recently raised $1,400 for the Assistance League of Hemacinto.
The funds were raised at a social event featuring a poker tournament and a silent auction of gift baskets prepared by each school site in the San Jacinto Unified School District.
“We greatly appreciate the Assistance League’s Operation School Bell project each year, where they help clothe a little over 1,700 students in the San Jacinto Valley,” Darla Gordon, president of the San Jacinto Teachers’ Association, said in a press release. Gordon is a teacher at Monte Vista Middle School.
Gordon and several other members of the San Jacinto Teachers’ Association presented the $1,400 check to Kat Waters, president of the Assistance League of Hemacinto, while she was working in the Christmas Room of the League’s Thrift Shop in Hemet.
“We really enjoy the ‘good chaos’ of hosting needy students at the local Walmart store, where we tell them to find $85 in clothing just for them,” Waters said about the Operation School Bell project, according to the press release.
The Assistance League of Hemacinto, which serves the Hemet and San Jacinto area, raises funds for its philanthropic projects, including Operation School Bell, all year at its Thrift Shop. The shop, at 180 N. Girard St., is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and everything in the shop’s Christmas Room is now marked down 50% until the room closes for the season, according to the press release.
