As the year comes to a close, our attention turns to the Holiday Season, and inevitably, to income taxes. The holidays are traditionally a time for gift giving and for increased assistance to the unfortunate. The chapters of Assistance League operate all year long with programs focused mostly on the children of our communities, those most unable to help themselves. During the holiday season, as donors generously contribute to many charities, we ask everyone to remember that our programs need a sustained level of support throughout every month of the year. We always welcome donations of cash. Our chapters that have Thrift Shops also welcome non-cash donations of tax deductible, clothing, housewares, books, sporting goods, electronic items and furniture. This is a great time to clean out your closets, your attic, or even the garage. Look around while you are getting your holiday decorations out. We welcome virtually anything that can be resold in our Thrift Shops to generate cash to support our programs.
Gifts are not only a great way to help the unfortunate, but they can also lower your tax bill through deductible donations. Cash is totally deductible, while non-cash contributions vary in deductibility based on value and condition. Regardless of condition, however, we will try to sell virtually any contribution. If in doubt, bring it in, or give your local chapter a call.
We wish everyone a happy and prosperous holiday season. Help us help the most unfortunate of our communities. Please donate to your local Assistance League chapter.
