Assistance League of Charlotte, through our Operation Book Bag program, works in partnership with the American Red Cross to provide new book bags and school supplies to students whose lives have been impacted by a crisis from a disaster, such as fire. Our mutual goal is for students to return to school having the necessary tools to continue maintaining their scholastic routines.
Thank you to our customers and donors for making our contributions possible. We’d like to share this heartfelt thank you note we received from an American Red Cross volunteer, Lolo Pendergrast, pictured.
“Dear Joan, Brenda, and all our Assistance League friends,
Thanks so much for resupplying our bookbags for children affected by home and apartment fires. When we bring out the bookbags- and a stuffed animal- for children who have suffered a home/belongings loss, their feelings and outlook change immediately. Like we’ve said before, some even start drawing, writing, and coloring as soon as they open their new bookbags.
It may start off as one of the most traumatic and difficult hours of their young lives, but thanks to your generosity and devotion to helping others, these children know in a big way that other people care about them and they will recover.
Thanks again,
The Logistics, Disaster Action Team, and Disaster Cycle Services groups at the American Red Cross”
