Robby and Kathy McBrayer

340 Meadowood Lane

“There isn’t a room that hasn’t been touched,” said homeowner Kathy McBrayer about her home in Park Meadows, purchased in 2014. The updates even extend to the home’s exterior. Limestone rock replaced some of the original brick in the front to add contrast. The house was built by Dorsey Homes in 1989 for the former Dallas Cowboy football player, Kelvin Martin.

Kathy and Robby customized the house to meet their needs. For example, the locations of the dining room and living room were switched to better accommodate family and friends. A large, custom dining table was built by a local Coppell artisan to fit the room. Built-in cabinets were added around an updated limestone fireplace to display and store family heirlooms.

These empty nesters work from home, so the bedroom off the entry was converted to office workspaces for two. French doors provide privacy, and the standard bedroom closet area was redesigned to store the media devices for the entire house.

The couple’s children are grown and have added two grandchildren in recent years. The bedrooms have been designed to accommodate an exercise/yoga area, reading space, play area, and room for guests. Both bedrooms contain rich custom cabinets that include murphy beds. Kathy said the murphy beds were intentional and ideal for creating play and sleep space for the grandkids while still providing a retreat for guests.

The master suite remodel included gutting the master bath.  The shower, tub, and cabinets were designed to better fit the space. A custom wall unit was built in the bedroom to house the TV and provide additional storage. Mirrored, sliding closet doors were replaced and the closet space was professionally revamped to provide additional shelving and hanging capacity.

The kitchen and family room were completely remodeled. After demolition, all that remained were two built-in bookcases. The fireplace in the family room was redone in limestone. The kitchen also has new custom cabinetry and a large island beautifully designed for meal prep and baking. Some unique features were added, including a recessed floor area for dog bowls (they have three small dogs) and two size-specific cabinets to store a couple of Kathy’s favorite appliances: a gelato maker and KitchenAid mixer. A small kitchen table fits in the window nook that looks out to the backyard.

The back patio is an entertainer’s delight. The heated pool with a tanning ledge was designed to be nestled into the garden. The covered patio includes a seating area, television, and grills.

The McBrayer’s have turned a 1980’s house into a charming modern jewel. This is their third home in Coppell in 32 years; it seems that they like it here.
