This project began on April 6, 2016, when a seed of “the need to help teenage girls obtain affordable dresses for special school dances” was planted and nurtured by a group of Assistance League of Greater Placer members. Local High Schools were contacted to verify the need and in turn, we received not only validation but also the support of the local schools.
Within five months, members had collected over 150 dresses for both Homecoming and Prom. Three Homecoming Dress Events were held for high school girls in September and one in early October 2016.
Many dresses were purchased for Homecoming by the girls and their parents or relatives. The Homecoming Dress Events in September 2016 validated the need and demonstrated there is clientele who appreciate and want this type of dress.
We are actively collecting long dresses for Jr. /Sr. Proms. We have many stunning dresses some of which originally cost over $300! The long dresses range in price from $10-$40. As expectations for these dresses grow and broaden, we hope donations of these dresses will continue to grow to meet the need. Gently used and loved dresses may be donated to Assistance League of Greater Placer Thrift Shop or dropped off at the Auburn Journal.
