Assistance League ® of Greater Placer launched their ACTION! Week event, “Reading Safari”, at Sierra Hills Elementary School in Meadow Vista and what a great time we had. We participated, along with 56 other chapters nationwide, in the National Marketing Committee’s effort to raise awareness of the importance of putting books into the hands of children and encouraging them to read.
The “Reading Safari” event included a presentation and slide show, given by Katie Smith, on the baby animals of Africa and her recent experiences on Safari in Africa. Katie captured everyone’s attention with her presentation and received enthusiastic participation through informational questions. We all left with new knowledge about the animals of Africa. Books were read out loud to students by Kathleen Geary of the Literacy Enrichment Committee, Jungle Toss and Safari Hunt games were played, and free books, treats, and jungle animal masks were given to each student who attended. We donated over 200 Books to Sierra Hills School students.
