A $10,000 check was presented to to Dr. Gene Smith, Brunswick Community College President, and Elizabeth Wassum, Executive Director of the Foundation of Brunswick Community College (BCC) in October, to help educate non-traditional nursing students at the college. To date, we have given $65,500 to BCC for scholarships for student nurses.

Most of the scholarship recipients have experienced an interrupted education because they left their schooling to care for and/or financially support family members. Returning to school is difficult due to juggling studies, family and jobs. However, all are committed to entering the nursing profession and improving life for their families. Our scholarships make it possible for them to focus more time on their education.

An added bonus of the presentation was a tour of the college’s new Health Sciences Building and meeting the animatronic “patients” on which the students practice their skills.
