When Howe PreK learned they were about to receive a $1,000 “You Gotta Have HeART!” award as part of this year’s AL ACTION! project, Principal Leigh Ann Lampley was ecstatic. Howe, which opened last year, did not have an art program yet, but they were about to develop one.

Fast forward a few months and the school’s halls are alive with the children’s creations. In a unique project combining a read-aloud activity and art extension, the entire school focused on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After hearing teachers read the book, each student in the school created a personal dot using the new paints, brushes and paper the school bought with the funds provided by our chapter. The school is grateful.
