I’m In Charge, a program of Assistance League of Kansas City is a school curriculum for elementary-age students focusing on safety in emergency and non-emergency situations when a child is alone at home or on their own away from home. Safety topics are covered by engaging students in discussion and role-play situations on:
o using the telephone;
o answering the door;
o inappropriate touching, stranger danger;
o fire safety;
o guns;
o first-aid;
o Internet safety; and
o emergency weather situations.
Assistance League of Kansas City volunteers recently organized, packed and delivered approximately 6,500 I’m In Charge workbooks to local elementary schools for their fall curriculum, and since the safety program began in 1984, over 160,000 elementary students have received this valuable training.
