Bears with Assistance League T-shirts are distributed to the local Youth Shelter, Fire and Police Departments to give to children in distressful times. This is a nationwide program that most Assistance League chapters provide in their communities.
Other Programs
Hug-a-Bear
Caps for a Cause
The program provides yarn for our members to knit/crochet caps to be given to nursing homes, cancer patients and others in need. In our December shipments, Santa pins are included to help bring cheer to patients during the holiday season.
Waymakers Youth Shelter
Waymakers Laguna Beach Youth Shelter is a six-bed shelter for children between the ages of 11 and 17. This shelter supports youths and their families who are in crisis.
Assistance League of Laguna Beach funds enrichment programs and educational activities for youth who are staying at the shelter. Twice monthly, Assistance League of Laguna Beach Professsional members facilitate an art project or work with the teens to prepare a meal.
The Assisteens assemble welcome kits which are given to each child when he or she arrives. In addition, Assisteens provide holiday treats throughout the year.
Youth who stay at the shelter are encouraged to read during their stay and books they select can be taken when they return home. Assistance League of Laguna Beach regularly provides books to the Shelter for their library.
Workability Program
This program provides clothing and supplies from donations to Assistance League of Laguna Beach Thrift Shop to residents of our local Friendship Shelter, participants in the Collaborative Courts Program and Laguna Beach High School students who are pursuing employment. Appointments are made for individuals to visit the Thrift Shop and pick out needed items.
Clothing is also provided for residents of the local Alternative Sleeping Location. The Assisteens collected donations of socks for the Alternative Sleeping Location.
Waste Not
Nothing donated to Assistance League of Laguna Beach Thrift Shop goes to waste! Assistance League of Laguna Beach shares donations of clothing, shoes, linens, housewares and toys with other groups who are in need of these items for helping their constituents.
Assistance League of Laguna Beach donates merchandise to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Homefront America, Laguna Animal Shelter, Waymakers Youth Shelter, Susi Q Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club, Friendship Shelter and Working Wardrobe.
The Waste Not Program utilizes every donation for providing help, comfort or opportunity.
