Assisteens Auxiliary of Assistance League® of Las Vegas is a nonprofit organization whose members offer their time and service to children and adults in need throughout our community. It was formed in Las Vegas in 1996 and certified in 1997. Membership is open to teens in grades seven through twelve.
Assisteens Duties
The Assisteens Auxiliary has a governing body of eight teenagers who are taught how a nonprofit organization is run while guiding and overseeing the members. The students research and select their own projects which are then funded entirely by their own fundraising efforts. This teaches the students about leadership and the importance of responding to the needs of the community while experiencing the joys of volunteering.
The main fundraising efforts that support their philanthropic programs include selling sugar scrubs, cookie mixes, and members’ crafts at the Chapter’s events and throughout our community. Assisteens also work one to two times a year in our Assistance League Thrift shop to earn a percentage of that day’s proceeds.
How Assisteens Help
The members of the Assisteens Auxiliary focus their volunteer efforts on Operation School Bell® (OSB). Working with the Clark County School District, OSB annually provides nearly 7,000 students in need with a weeks’ worth of new clothes, school supplies, hygiene kits and more.
Assisteens also support our Assistance League’s affiliated community program agencies by:
- Making and donating blankets to OSB and local veterans
- Donating needed items to Project 150, a program that provides support to homeless, displaced, and disadvantaged high school students
- Shopping for Perfect Fit, an OSB program that provides plus-sized clothing to teens in need
- Hosting a holiday party for underprivileged elementary-aged students each December that includes filling and distributing stockings, playing games with the guests, and coordinating photos with Santa.
In 2024 the Assisteens Auxiliary collaborated with the Super Bowl community service initiative called Super Kids-Super Sharing. The National Football League has implemented this sports equipment, book and school supply donation project in every Super Bowl host community for the past 24 years. Assisteens teamed up with the Las Vegas Raiders, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, Verizon and local public and private schools for Super Kids-Super Sharing. Schools and organizations register to donate or receive items as part of Super Kids.
