Evening and Weekend Volunteer Opportunities

Who We Are

Desert Sage Auxiliary, certified in May 2001, was formed to complement the fundraising and philanthropic efforts of the Chapter. Desert Sage provides an opportunity for those who wish to give service to the community but have limited daytime hours to volunteer. The focus of Desert Sage is to provide assistance for children and adults in the community.

What We Do

Desert Sage Auxiliary members share responsibility for Chapter programs by volunteering at Operation School Bell® when their schedules allow and working four evenings a year to help process donations in our Assistance League Thrift Shop.  Desert Sage Auxiliary members also work side-by-side with Chapter members on other Assistance League programs and events.

Desert Sage Auxiliary has its own programs which include:

  • Angel’s Assistance provides services to local hospitals and clinics. This program includes:
        • Memory boxes given to parents who have lost a child at birth,
        • Forever In My Heart bereavement bags given to patients who suffer a loss under 20 weeks gestation in the Emergency Room,
        • Tray favors, which are holiday gift bags provided to pediatric patients at two local hospitals,
        • Health kits and blankets given to prenatal families in need, and
        • Shadow Buddies™ dolls provided to children with cancer being treated at a pediatric oncology clinic.
  • Help for HOPE Scholars provides laptop computers, as well as textbooks each semester, to incoming students who are accepted into the UNLV HOPE Scholars Program

Desert Sage Auxiliary also has its own fundraising events which include:

  • Shop On Sunday – the third Sunday of each month when our members operate our Assistance League Thrift Shop,
  • ChariTea – a direct mail fundraiser in which a beautiful card containing a tea bag is sent to “friends of Desert Sage Auxiliary” asking them to send a donation while relaxing with a cup of tea and reading about our programs, and
  • Various other events such as the sale of holiday gift baskets and wreaths.
