The program has been serving our community since 1994. When assault victims arrive at the hospital, they may be asked to leave their clothing as evidence. In the past, the victim was sent home or to the police station in scrubs from the emergency room. Assistance League of Mid-Missouri provides local hospitals with Assault Survivor Kits®, packages of clothing, given to the victim instead of scrubs. The kits are packaged in a wide range of adult and children’s sizes.
Providing Emergency Clothing
to Victims of Assault
Each kit contains the following items for victims:
- a sweatshirt
- sweatpants
- undergarments
- socks
- Beanie Baby for children’s kits
- hygiene items
The hospital is also given fleece blankets for the victim to use and take home. Between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024, 43 adult kits and 26 children’s kits valued at $815.00 were provided to local hospital emergency rooms. Previously unused kits reduced expenditures. Kits are now also being provided to women at True North who arrive with only the clothes they are wearing. Forty-seven volunteer hours were involved.
