AL Action Week
This week is ACTION WEEK 2023 for all 120 Assistance League chapters nationwide. It is hard to imagine the amazing impact of all 22,000 Assistance League volunteer members collectively “taking action”.
LITERACY is the focus for the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa for ACTION WEEK 2023 and beyond.
Our Book Brigade, in partnership with Julie Vasi, NMUSD District Librarian, has identified two elementary school libraries in need of books: Wilson Elementary and California Elementary. Starting this week through the month of September, our members are organizing mini book drives and collecting new and gently used books for pre-K through grade 6. Nonfiction and bi-lingual books are most needed.
Donated books can be dropped off in the BOOK BIN at the Assistance League main entrance at 2220 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Our parking lot gates are open from 10am-2pm, Monday through Saturday. Please call (949) 645-6929 with any questions.
Knowing that there are community members who may not have books to donate but who would like to support these school libraries, there is also an option to purchase books or bookmarks from the Amazon Wish List, created by NMUSD District Librarian, which identifies needed nonfiction and bi-lingual books as well as special scratch & sniff bookmarks that are used as fun incentives to encourage reading.
