Members of Assistance League of Northern Virginia gathered recently at a breakfast reception to thank members of the Craft Club of Nativity Catholic Church in Burke for their sustained support of our chapter. The Craft Club has made monetary contributions and also donated crocheted and knitted hats and scarves that we provided to elementary school students, as well as gorgeous baby blankets, booties, and sweaters that we delivered to a clinic serving low-income families. During the event, our members recounted how appreciative the students were for the warmth, uniqueness and beauty of the items they received, as were the new mothers who received the hand-crafted items for their babies.
The reception included a wonderful assortment of tantalizing food, but the most important element of the day was the exchange of stories among members of the two groups. We both share a commitment to improve our community but have taken different approaches to carry out that mission. All attendees came away with a deeper appreciation of the importance of the work each group does, and that because that work is accomplished with extraordinary commitment, the benefits are immeasurable.
