TODAY is National Nonprofit Day – a time to educate, enlighten and empower citizens to make a difference. Assistance League has been making a significant difference in the lives of the most vulnerable students and their families in our community for over 20 years! Our small but mighty chapter provides the essentials that children need to become well-rounded students and successful in school and in life. Rather than focus on a single area of a child’s needs, we strive to ensure that students have ALL the basics: food, clothing, literacy support, new books, and hygiene items. We raise the funds needed for these efforts through grants, fundraising, and donation drives. We hope to increase the number of students we help each year, despite the growing need and the effects that inflation has had on our resources and more importantly on those of the families we serve.
Next week, each of the 120 chapters of Assistance League will participate in ACTION WEEK — a nationwide effort to raise public awareness about the range of solutions that individual chapters have designed to address issues in their communities. Realizing how much good the chapters are doing for their neighbors should help everyone see the benefit of supporting Assistance League chapters, and other nonprofit organizations.
For our Action Week effort, we seek donations through our wish lists on RightGift to help us provide new books and hygiene items to students, and infant items to new mothers. We invite you to purchase items from that list: Assistance League of Northern Virginia | RightGift. Alternatively, we always welcome monetary donations, which can be made by credit card from our website: Donate | Assistance League – Northern Virginia or by check. Although Action Week runs from August 21-27, there’s no need to wait. Donations through wish-list purchases or by credit card or check can be made at any time. It’s easy to make a difference in a child’s life. Please help us do that!
