With the common bond of supporting our communities, Assistance League of Virginia and Social4Good got together recently to assemble packages of books for pre-K students that will be given to schools for summer reading.
Volunteers from both groups met at the home of a Social4Good member and assembled 375 packages, with three classics in a bag, that we will give to children as part of our summer reading program. We hope that with a new book each month, these young readers will develop a love of reading, which is so important for their future success in school and in life.
At this event, attendees learned about the important contributions each nonprofit makes in Northern Virginia. In addition, Social4Good made a very generous donation to our chapter of $4051 so that we can continue our Literacy for Kids efforts, especially by buying new books, as well as our other philanthropic programs that are focused on addressing the basic needs of students at the Title 1 schools we serve. It was a delightful evening of meeting new volunteers while doing good work for our community. We are grateful to have been selected by Social4Good for this project and for the opportunity to partner with an organization that is also making a big difference in our community.
