Think about how difficult it is to concentrate when you’re hungry.  Imagine elementary school students getting hungry and fidgeting in class as the afternoon progresses.  Breakfast and lunch come early for elementary students so having an afternoon snack can provide an important energy boost.  Sadly, many families can’t afford to provide such snacks.  Assistance League of Northern Virginia is helping fill this need for students in low-income families by providing snacks each day.

This year we are inviting the public to share in celebrating our twentieth year of community service by making contributions from our monthly wish lists.  This month the wish list is focused on snack items to help students who would otherwise go without.  With input from school counselors, these items recognize dietary restrictions and food allergies.
