White House Ornaments

Designed by the White House Historical Association

Each year Assistance League of Northern Virginia brightens the Christmas tree by offering a uniquely designed White House Christmas ornament. Each year, the White House Historical Association creates a new design to commemorate a special event, person, or place.

From their website:

Made from solid brass, finished in 24-karat gold, and screen printed with exquisite color, the Official 2024 White House Christmas Ornament honors President Jimmy Carter. The ornament’s anchor shape, an iconic symbol of hope, represents Carter’s service in the United States Navy. The design also highlights historic moments from his life and presidency. Every ornament ships in a keepsake box with a ribbon for hanging and an illustrated booklet on the Carter presidency

And the cherry on top: each ornament has a unique serial number with which you can register your very own piece of history!

2023 - White House Christmas Ornament

The Official 2023 White House Christmas Ornament, the only ornament of its kind, is produced by the White House Historical Association, a private, nonpartisan organization, and made in America by a veteran-founded business. Each ornament funds the work of our historians, researchers, and educators to open the doors to the rich history of the “people’s house” for millions of Americans.

2022 - The (Gingerbread) White House Tradition

A perfect addition to any holiday tree, this American-made holiday ornament illustrates this decades-long tradition, complete with delicate icing, red and white striped candies, gumdrops, and candy canes. If you look closely, you can even see little gingerbread children frolicking in front of the North Portico. Included with this beautifully gift-boxed keepsake is a gingerbread scented insert, booklet, and recipe card featuring a gingerbread recipe from First Lady Pat Nixon's time at the White House.

2021 - Lyndon Baines Johnson

The White House Historical Association's 2021 Official White House Christmas Ornament commemorates the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson. One side of the ornament features a painting of the 1967 Blue Room Christmas Tree. Mrs. Johnson requested that Robert H. Laessig, a designer for American Greetings, paint the official Christmas tree in the Blue Room for their card that year. The 1967 White House Christmas card was sent out by President and Mrs. Johnson to White House staff members, family, and friends.

2020 - John Fitzgerald Kennedy

The White House Historical Association's Official 2020 White House Christmas Ornament honors John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the thirty-fifth president of the United States. The youngest president since Theodore Roosevelt, Kennedy took office in January 1961, at age 43. Before his vibrant presidency was cut short by an assassin's bullet on November 22, 1963, he had invigorated the American spirit. His legacy lives on in his youthful belief in America and his faith in America's responsibilities to the world.

2019 - Dwight D. Eisenhower

The White House Historical Association's Official 2019 White House Christmas Ornament honors Dwight D. Eisenhower, the thirty-fourth president of the United States. This ornament symbolizes President Eisenhower's commitment to innovation. Eisenhower was the first president to fly in a helicopter while in office in July 1957, and thereafter the helicopter became a feature of White House life. It was often used by the president to commute short distances, demonstrating to the public and indeed the world that it was safe.
