In early 2022, we began a partnership with GotSneakers.com, an organization that compensates nonprofit organizations for the athletic shoes they collect. The amount of compensation depends on the quality, style, and condition of the shoes. New and gently used athletic shoes garner higher compensation and are distributed to people needing shoes. The money we earn from this effort supports our programs that help local children and their families.
This initiative not only helps people who can’t afford footwear it also helps to keep shoes out of landfills. Because athletic shoes are made with materials that are not biodegradable, most end up in landfills or are incinerated. All heavily used and damaged shoes sent to GotSneakers are recycled either to reuse the materials or to convert to new energy. So, your donated athletic shoes will not only help our chapter, they might also help others have quality footwear, and you’ll help the planet by keeping the shoes out of landfills.
