Janet Cairney was given the 2017 Ada Edwards Laughlin Award for the Orange Chapter on September 8, 2017 at the monthly membership meeting. Named for one of the co-founders of National Assistance League, this award recognizes a Chapter member who is always ready to help when called upon, serves behind the scenes and is a great asset to Chapter. Janet has kept the official record of chapter members’ volunteer hours for many years. She also ran the golf tournament portion of many of our past Embrace Orange fundraisers. A dedicated Boutique Noël Finance Committee member, Janet has been known to take time off from her job at St. Joseph’s Hospital to make sure all of the merchandise tags get counted. Members appreciate Janet’s calm and practical nature, kindness, intelligence and wit. The award announcement generated a standing ovation from members present at the meeting.
