Assistance League of Reno-Sparks celebrated the start of Nevada Reading Week and Assistance League’s Action Week by providing new books so every student at Echo Loder Elementary School could pick one to take home. We loved watching the joy in their faces as they made their selections. We also provided bookmarks and stickers to celebrate the joy of reading.
For years, Assistance League has helped stock books in school and preschool libraries throughout Reno-Sparks. “Our school libraries are very underfunded, and we’ve been delighted to help support them,” stated Assistance League President Ellen Fockler. “This time we’re giving books directly to the students. It’s so important to put books in the hands of children, books that they can share with their families. Building a love of reading is a foundation for the rest of their lives.”
Assistance League also has donated thousands of books to pre-school centers, where Assistance League “Grandmas” read to young children every week and distribute new books every month.
