Assistance League Reno-Sparks celebrated forty years of clothing Washoe County School District students through its Operation School Bell® program on September 17 at the Sparks Target store. With 30 shopping events at local Walmart and Target stores this fall, Assistance League will clothe over 3,000 deserving elementary school students who are selected by their school counselors. Over the past 40 years, Assistance League Reno-Sparks has clothed over 100,000 Washoe County School District children.

“Altogether, Assistance League donates over $700,000 each year and thousands of service hours to help ensure students’ success in our community,” said Heidi Jackson, president of Assistance League of Reno-Sparks. “Our student-focused programs also include filling school counselor’s clothes closets for emergencies, sponsoring classroom projects, buying books for school libraries, providing books for students to take home over the summer, helping at-risk high school students graduate, and scholarships for continuing education. Operation School Bell is our biggest philanthropic program, funded by generous grants and proceeds from our Thrift Shop at 1701 Vassar Street in Reno.”
