Here is a sample application from 2023-2024.  Last year, the maximum award was $400.

My project objective is to increase my students’ reading fluency, comprehension, and engagement.  I want to purchase book sets and floor cushions to help my 2nd grade WCSD students increase their love of reading while being ergonomically comfortable. We have a need for Read Aloud book sets, to allow students to follow along during Read Aloud time – the more words seen, the more words imprinted.  These books will revolve around our ELA, Science, and Math curriculums. I would like to purchase fiction and non-fiction book sets that are grade-level, eye-catching, and exciting to my students.  My students love stories, and they love science. It is highly beneficial for each student to have their own book to follow along with so they can improve their word fluency, vocabulary, and independence.  Also, this allows my students to track the words as the text is read aloud.

The students would directly benefit from both the books and cushions by allowing them to improve their reading fluency and reading comprehension by looking, reading, and discussing while improving their focus and engagement.  Their own cushion allows students to be in a comfortable position, so reading is a pleasurable, focused experience.

Student success will be measured by the gains in their reading fluency, reading comprehension, and engagement.

I prefer to purchase as many high-quality book sets as possible; prices are subject to change. I normally purchase my classroom books from Amazon Prime, Scholastic, Grassroots, Barnes and Noble, plus a few specific online teacher’s stores such as Lakeshore, DK Classroom Outlet, Really Good Stuff, Carson Delosa, etc.
