Assistance League of San Jose was recently honored by the San Jose City Council at its
monthly meeting. A proclamation plaque was awarded to the League for providing a
varied array of services to the local community for over 35 years.
City Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco also honored the Assistance League chapter at its
25th Operation School Bell anniversary this past spring. Operation School Bell (OSB)
provides uniforms to students in need at 39 local schools in three different districts. It
wasn’t until the Vice Mayor was invited to the ALSJ anniversary luncheon that she
realized Assistance League was the group who had helped her family at a critical time
years ago!
The Vice Mayor then arranged for ALSJ to be recognized by the City Council for its
work in the San Jose community. At the Council meeting, Mayor Sam Liccardo assisted
Vice Mayor Carrasco in awarding the City Proclamation. They thanked each attending
member for their devotion of time, talent, leadership and dedication to those in need.
ALSJ’s programs are supported by major contributions from The George and Jeanette
Stuart Trust, Applied Materials, Star One Credit Union, Safeway, and the Almaden
Women’s Club. Their generosity enables ALSJ to help others!
