A favorite Assist-a-Shelter enrichment activity at Family Supportive Housing is Little Explorers Petting Zoo. Adorable baby farm animals meet the delighted children and parents in the pen set up in the parking garage. Petting, brushing, and touching the baby animals is allowed and encouraged. Happy children’s voices are amazed at how the hair, horns, and fur feel. All of the parents are smiling during the entire visit. The animals are quite nonchalant as they munch away on bits of hay and food pellets. Up close and personal is a special experience not readily available to city folks.
