Our Screening Eyes Early (SEE) program screens preschoolers’ vision and makes referral to eye doctors for vision concerns found during the ‘eye game’ screening process. Since 1 in 20 preschool children has amblyopia (“lazy eye”), and as it is a condition that be successfully corrected if detected/treated before the age of 10, our trained volunteers participate excitedly in this very necessary program. While this is a primary goal, other eye conditions can also be found through the screening/examining of the eyes which may not have been previously noticed. Letters to parents advise them to see a physician/eye clinic for further testing/diagnosis of their child. Follow-up is done by the AL San Jose SEE program chairs and by the preschools. It’s all about the child!
