About the Thrift

OUR WHY:

Established in 2015, our Thrift Store is one facet of our mission driven, member-led organization: The Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County.  100% of profits – together with the generosity of many supporters –  fund two key initiatives:

We help to clothe school age children in need. Students who are referred by their educators to our organization are able to shop for free, new school clothes with one of our two retail partners,  Kohl’s Paso Robles or Old Navy San Luis Obispo. In 2023, we clothed 2,388 students!

An annual grant award of $10,000 to Cuesta College provides funding for required tools and materials to students in need who are enrolled at the college in career education/trades programs.

OUR VOLUNTEERS:

Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County is managed and run exclusively by our member volunteers. Our thrift store is staffed solely by volunteers, who typically donate a dozen hours per month to the store. In summer of 2024, we will add one part-time paid manager to help us continue to grow this successful initiative.

Volunteer roles in the store include:

  • Helping customers
  • Sorting donations
  • Cleaning and pricing items
  • Stocking shelves and clothing racks
  • Curating displays
  • Cashiering
  • Maintaining our beautiful store!
