THE ASSISTEENS®
HOURS & AWARDS
Each member contributes a minimum of fifty hours of volunteer service per year. Many Assisteens exceed that number of volunteer hours each year and earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Assisteens is a certifying organization for this award and annually applies on behalf of those who qualify. In addition, Assisteens with 150 hours or more and meeting the criteria, are presented the prestigious Angel Award.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Fostering leadership and public speaking are cornerstones of Assisteens. Members may choose to pursue various officer positions, serve on the Governing Body and plan the monthly meetings and community service events. Additionally, there are a number of event committees for which Assisteens can volunteer and expand their participation, organizational and planning skills and overall experience. Through the years of serving together, members also form life-long friendships and networks!
MEETINGS
Assisteens are required to attend the one monthly meeting and service event. Additional service is encouraged but not necessary. Assisteens is a student-run organization. Meetings are prepared and led by the Chairperson in collaboration with the Assisteens Governing Body. To further grade level relations, there is also a grade specific social and philanthropic event each year.
EVENTS
Annual events include the spring Installation Luncheon, Beach Clean Up, Operation School Bell, Palos Verdes Land Conservancy, the Assisteens hosted Momentum Pediatric Halloween Party, Fall Food Drive, Veterans’ Day Appreciation, Candy Cane Lane plus many more. Additionally, the annual Recognition Event honors the many hours of community service that our graduating seniors have contributed to the surrounding communities. These events provide opportunities for members to engage with the community in meaningful ways while also fostering social and leadership skills.
HOURS
Assisteens are required to work a minimum of 30 hours per year. Hours are earned by volunteer work as well as attendance at meetings and events. Shooting Star and Angel Awards are given to those who work 50 and 75 annual hours respectively. All hours earned qualify for the Presidential Service Award.
