Among the ways that Assistance League of Santa Monica is assisting children in need:
Backpacks filled with school supplies are distributed in the fall to all Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District schools and to School on Wheels for distribution to students who are in need. Last year, 850 backpacks with school supplies and hygiene kits were given to students.
Emergency Clothing (sweatpants, hooded sweatshirts, socks and underwear) is bought and delivered, on request, to all Santa Monica/Malibu Unified Schools as well as Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools in our area. We also donate clothing to Stuart House, a model program serving sexually abused children through Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.
Vision Program provides vouchers for vision screening and glasses for students in the Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District. Care is provided by Optometric Options. Students receive vision checkups and glasses when needed. Children are recommended by school nurses and teachers.
