The Night Lights Auxiliary was welcomed to Assistance League Santa Monica in May 1989. It began as a group of working professional women who wanted to give back to their community, but who could only meet at night. During this time, current Night Lights members have contributed a total of 483 years of service to the community. Five of our charter members continue to actively work in the group; nine members have been in Night Lights for over thirty years, three for twenty-five, one for twenty, and four for fifteen years. Members volunteer in the ALSM Thrift Shop as their schedules allow and throughout the years have been very supportive of the ALSM campership program, raising funds and providing campers with duffle bags filled with necessary supplies, sleeping bags, and personal hygiene items.
For two years now, the Night Lights yearly fall fundraiser has helped provide scholarships for former foster care students in the Guardian Scholars Program at Santa Monica College. Students in this program attend Santa Monica College for two years and receive additional funds to continue their education and earn a four-year college degree. We are pleased to be able to take an active part in our community and provide additional educational resources for students in need.
