Operation School Bell To help schoolchildren in need, bags filled with clothing, a hygiene kit, a gift card for shoes, and a book and/or a toy are put together for both boys and girls who are referred to us by school counselors. We have clothed approximately 30,000 ‘School Bell Children’ since 1989. Go to “More about Operation School Bell” for more information.
Comfort Kits, are backpacks filled with lots of age-and gender-appropriate comfort, educational, and hygiene items for children who are in foster care. CASA workers (Court Appointed Special Advocates), distribute the kits to foster children for us. Our members contribute over 200 Comfort Kits each year. Book Buddies are our member-volunteers who visit Stockton’s Lottie Grunsky School each week to help second grader who are struggling with their reading skills.This program uses school approved materials to teach phonics and comprehension skills. This program has helped hundreds of students improve their reading skills and has been recognized by University of the Pacific for “Excellence in Education.
.Re-Share allows us to re-donate our overstocked thrift shop items of clothing and housewares to other nonprofits in our community. Only other 501 (c)(3) organizations may benefit from Re-Share. Currently we Re-Share with nonprofits such as the The Child Abuse Prevention Council, Gospel Center Rescue Mission, Showered With Love and the Salvation Army.
Scholarships for Teens. We offer scholarships each year for teens who have aged out of the foster care system. They must live in San Joaquin County and be registered at Delta College. The scholarships are intended to help with registration and texts costs.
CAPC Moms & Kids. The San Joaquin Child Abuse Prevention Council refers families to Assistance League when they are faced with dire circumstances and in need of emergency clothing. These families are supplied with clothing, basic necessities and a gift card.
